Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Therapy are relatively new treatments which aim to maximise the effectiveness of advanced massage treatment. Fascia is a tough protective and strengthening membrane which envelops and separates the structures of the body, from whole muscle groups and organs, bones to nerves and blood vessels.
Over time, and with stress and injury (no matter how subtle), fascia can become stuck and dehydrated. This causes pain. Because fascia winds around and through the whole body a restriction in one area can affect other areas too. Myofascial Release treatment restores suppleness which in turn reduces the symptoms of pain and restores balance to the body.
Trigger Points are tiny areas of constriction within a muscle that cause it to remain taught, even when at rest. Trigger Points feel tender to the touch but often go unnoticed as they are responsible for referring pain to other seemingly disassociated areas. Trigger points can be implicated in severe pain such as frozen shoulder and nerve pain and when treated, even these pains can be alleviated.
Used together, Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Therapy are powerful partners and clients have reported improvements in such conditions as :
